Headshots for Chris Zito: Actor, Comedian & On-Air Talent

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Chris Zito, a familiar face and voice in the Central Massachusetts entertainment scene. Chris is a comedian, actor, speaker, and longtime radio personality, with a career that has included comedy, broadcasting, and acting.

Chris came in for a new set of headshots that he could provide to his agent for his casting portfolio. Because he works across several different areas of entertainment, we wanted to create more than just a single traditional headshot.

Creating Range for Casting

For actors and performers, a headshot needs to do more than simply look good. It needs to give casting directors and agents an immediate sense of who you are and, depending on the project, what kinds of roles you might be able to play.

For Chris, we created a combination of clean, traditional headshots along with several character-oriented images. The standard portraits provide versatile images for professional and casting use, while the character shots allow a little more personality and interpretation.

That meant changing the expression, attitude, and overall feel of the images while keeping Chris recognizable throughout the session.

More Than a Traditional Headshot

One of the things I enjoy about photographing actors, comedians, and other performers is the opportunity to explore different sides of their personality.

A good session doesn't necessarily mean creating dozens of completely different looks. Instead, small changes in expression, posture, lighting, and direction can produce images that communicate very different personalities.

For Chris, we used the session to create a range of photographs that could work for casting, publicity, promotional materials, websites, and his professional portfolio.

Chris has spent decades working in comedy and radio, and that experience gives him plenty of personality to work with. The challenge was to capture that personality while also creating images that would function as professional casting headshots.
